Traditional Alleppy Fish Curry

    Coconut oil -2tbsp

    Shallots –approx 60 gm

    Green chilli -4 nos

    Ginger -3 inch root ,finely sliced

    Salt to taste

    Eastern Alleppey fish masala -3tbsp

    2nd Coconut Milk -300 ml

    Raw mangoes -2 nos

    Water- as required

    Fish -600gm

    1st Coconut Milk -300 ml

    Curry leaves -2 springs

  • 1Heat oil in a pan

    2Add in the shallots and fry till they are soft

    3Add in the ginger and green chillies

    4Add salt and fry briefly for 10 seconds

    5Add in Eastern Alleppey fish masala

    6Add 2nd coconut milk to the pan and mix well

    7To the above mix add in the mango chunks and a cup of water and bring it to boil

    8Add in the fish pieces and let the curry simmer for 10-12 minutes

    9Remove from flame add the 1st milk of coconut

    10Garnish with slit green chilli and curry leaves

    11Serve hot with rice or Appam

    Cooking Tips

    Use a manchati (clay pot) to make the curry more flavorful as it helps to retain moisture
