Kerala Style Beetroot Thoran

Thoran is a coconut-based vegetable Keralite dish. This common dish is usually eaten with steamed rice. Beetroot Thoran, Cabbage Thoran etc. are a common menu item for a sadhya.

Ingredients

  • Grated Beetroot – 250g
  • Small Onions – 2
  • Garlic cloves – 2
  • Green Chilly – 3
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Grated Coconut – 1/2 Cup
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves – as per requirement
  • Dry Red Chilly – 2-3
  • Coconut Oil – as per requirement
  • Salt – as per requirement
  • Coconut Oil
  • Mustard
  • Turmeric Powder

Directions

  1. Grate or chop finely the Beetroot.
  2. Chop the onions and green chilly.
  3. Mix well together with the above-chopped items, grated coconut, salt and turmeric powder.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and saute dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  5. Add the Beetroot-Coconut mixture to it and mix well.
